We ordered the octopus bibimbap and the galbi tang. The galbi tang was the highlight of the meal - delicious and flavorful, with tender meat and rich broth that hit the spot perfectly. The octopus bibimbap, while good and spicy, was met with a cautious recommendation from our waitress. She advised against it, suggesting that the bibimbap might be a better choice and mentioning that many patrons struggle with the spice. Despite this advice, we found the dish enjoyable, with just the right amount of kick. The ambiance at Han Yang is comfortable and inviting, making it a great place to enjoy a meal with friends or family. The staff is friendly and attentive, ensuring a pleasant dining experience overall. Overall, Han Yang offers tasty Korean cuisine in a cozy atmosphere with excellent service. While the waitress's caution regarding spice may have seemed unnecessary, it didn't detract from our enjoyment of the meal.
Nothing says comforting like a bowl of hot soup, specifically galbi-tang. The short ribs were tender and the broth was full of umami so much so that I couldn't stop drinking it when I got full. The serving size is pretty generous and I took the rest of it to go. When I went to heat it up again the next day, I saw how much collagen was in the broth which is a reminder of how nutritious this meal is in addition to how good it tastes. The only odd thing was how gritty the green onions tasted, even when served fresh, but I'm pretty sure it was a fluke. I probably came at a peak time at 1 p.m. on a Saturday because the parking lot was packed. When I left though it was half empty. The wait was about 10 minutes and they took our order while we waited outside which was a great call because it was at our table within the 5 minutes that we sat down.
Pretty yummy! A little pricey. I came around 5:30pm with a group of 6 total and we had to wait about 20 minutes for a table. We each ordered an entree and we also got a Tonkotsu and a thistle rice to share. They give you radish kimchi, cabbage kimchi, and mustard greens kimchi for the table. I ordered the galbi-tang, which I thought was pretty good. It was a little salty and felt like they added a lot of seasoning to it. But otherwise, it was flavorful and the galbi was nice and tender. The rice was well cooked. They give barley tea for drinks. At the end of our meal, it felt like they were rushing us to finish and leave (which I didn't appreciate). We each paid about $38 after tax and tip. There's a female restroom and a gender-neutral restroom. There's also free parking in the parking lot, but space is limited.
On one of my days off someone took me here for lunch. We came on a weekday around 1:30pm and there was no wait. There were a few parties inside but not very busy. I was pleasantly surprised that they had lots of different things on their menu. We were given a variety of kimchi banchan and some barley rice drink water. For lunch, we both shared their Yuk-Gae-Jang and Don-Katsu. The Yuk-Gae-Jang was a delicious large spicy beef and vegetable soup that can be asked to be made mild or extra spicy. Otherwise it comes medium spicy which I enjoyed. It was really good and was given with some rice. The Don-Katsu was a perfectly fried pork cutlet that was served with a yummy cabbage salad, miso soup and rice. It came with some house special sauce that was a little tangy and yummy. The food here is very affordable and the service was excellent. The food came out fairly quick and we had no complaints. The inside is very causal and is good for smaller or large parties. I recommend if you want some yummy affordable korean food at a low key location.
Han Yang is my favorite place for galbitang! Service/Ambiance: Their service is decent. Usually not the best for anyone that's not Korean but still okay. The inside is very cozy and the airoma of the soup is adds to this. Food Consensus: spicy sautéed small octopus bibimbap / naomi dol-sot : 9/10 I like how spicy and the saucy the dish is. The octopus is the perfect texture and the runny egg over all of it is amazing. I love this with white rice. korean bbq beef bibimbap / bulgogi dol-sot : 8/10 This is a solid beef bibimbap. It has everything a good bibimbap needs. I think it's good for sharing but I wouldn't eat it alone. beef short ribs soup / galbitang : 10/10 The galbitang is what I come for! The broth is beefy yet light and it's the perfect comfort meal. I love dipping the meat in that sauce they give you and having a spoonful of soup and rice. It's the best. The kimchi and other banchan dishes are very fresh and delicious. All the food I've tried so far is good. Definitely check it out when you're in Buena Park.
TL;DR: If you're a fan of lighter-tasting Korean soups then you've found the spot with their Galbi Tang! Otherwise, you might want to peruse their other options. parking: - this restaurant is located in a very small parking lot but I had no trouble finding parking in the morning. wait time: - zero service: - fast and attentive. food: [Worth It] - unlimited banchan: the kimchi and radish were a bit too sour for me but I enjoyed the pickled mustard green and the daikons. - instant coffee dispenser: very affordable and surprisingly tasted very good for instant! [Good to Try Once] - Galbi Tang: this was huge and a shareable option amongst 1 other person. The meat fell off the bones and tasted well cooked. The soup itself was lightly salted and would taste bland to the American palate. I could see this soup being a great option to have for sick days.
Han Yang in Buena Park, CA, is a true treasure trove for Korean cuisine 맛있어요!! Last night we went to this place for dinner. From the hearty ox tail soup, Gailbi Tang, to the tantalizing Bulgogi and Pork cutlet, each dish exudes authentic flavors that whisk you away to the streets of Korea. The warm and inviting ambiance coupled with attentive service creates an unparalleled dining experience. And oh, the Kimchi! It's a symphony of flavors that you simply must indulge in. Han Yang is undoubtedly a must-visit destination for anyone craving the exquisite tastes of Korean cuisine in Buena Park! Free parking, but very small parking lot, hard to find parking space on weekends.
My mate and I came here because we'd been craving Korean food on a Sunday, especially during the rainy weather we've been having, and Han Yang was perfect! This also happened to be one of the few Korean restaurants that was open on a Sunday. Conveniently located walking distance from OC's newly recognised Korea Town, we stopped here before making our way around the area. There was a bit of a wait with lots of Koreans waiting in line (which is a very good sign) when we arrived - it was about 30 minutes until my party of 2 were seated; you put your party count and name down on the piece of paper by the front of the door, and a member of the staff helps coordinate who seating based on availability. You can sit indoors or outside - thankfully the latter has heat lamps to keep you warm. Upon being seated, we got the refreshing & cold barley tea and the usual banchan offerings (nappa, radish, turnip, and sweet mustard kimchis); we ordered: - 쟁반비빔냉면 (Bibim Nangmyun): Spicy Mixed Buckwheat Noodles, Cold buckwheat noodle with 'House Special' sweet spicy sauce and chopped lettuce with sliced cucumber and toppings of boiled egg & roasted sesame. $20.99. Pro-tip: Don't wait too long to cut and mix your bibim nangmyun; pour over the oil and cut it right away so that the noodles don't stick to one another. - 육계장 (Yuk-Gae-Jang): Spicy Beef & Vegetable Soup, Traditional hot spicy beef soup, tasting buttery without actual butter addition, is pre-marinated with julienne brisket & variety of vegetables beforehand, served with steamed rice. $19.99. The portions are extremely generous - enough for two people - and the pricing makes sense. Loved everything. The servers are all lovely and kind Korean ladies and boys who will refill your kimchi until you're blue in the face. Excellent service; very quick and attentive. My mate and I were eating our yuk-gae-jang first and didn't mix & cut our bibim nangmyun, so one of the servers came over to ask if they wanted us to mix it because we weren't familia with it; we had to share with them that we were just being slow to getting to it as we wanted to finish the soup first (since we were a little cold) - really appreciated how kind and considerate they were. There's a free parking lot that's a part of the restaurant, but if you can't find parking in the lot, there's plenty of free street parking. Excited to come back and try more of their menu items, and promise to cut my bibim nangmyun so they don't think I'm inexperienced! Note: They have two summer-only noodle dishes that I am soooo ready to come back and try - the 콩국수 (Kong Guksu) and 물냉면 (Mul-Nangmyun). This is now my go-to for Korean comfort food; it's truly a classic, no-frills menu with great options and quality dishes!
Grocery shopping weekend. We wanted to make an attempt at gamjatang and needed Korean ingredients. This meant H Mart. Our favorite one is in Buena Park and to save time, we decided on eating breakfast out there before shopping. My wife did her usual Yelp search and found Han Yang which was opened early. We found parking in their small lot and stood patiently inside until a waitress was available. We were seated once a table opened up and were given menus and cups for cold barley tea. Without asking, they brought us plastic spoons and forks for our kids and a high chair for my son. The inside was nice and clean and the was a waitress busy refilling banchans. We ordered an intestine Sullungtang, a galbitang, a doganeetang, and a manduguk. One of the waitresses immediately brought out our banchans of fresh kimchi, radish, and two other side dishes. They were ridiculously fresh and well-seasoned. A little while later, our piping hot bowls of soup arrived. We customized the broth to our liking (with green onions and salt) and dove in. The broth was flavorful and complex with pork and beef notes infused in the clear broth. Somehow both light and rich. It paired well with the medium grain rice that it was served with. There was a generous portion which made sense why the price tag was high. The kids really enjoyed their manduguk and were saddened when they ate all their large dumplings and our glass noodles. Han Yang was perfect for the rainy weather! But it also happened to be the best Korean soup we have ever tried. The food and service are Han Yang is healing to the soul. I wish we lived closer so we can come here every weekend.
I'm obsessed with their Galbi Tang. One bowl costs $21.99 and it is LOADED with beef short ribs. The meat is so tender and tastes amazing when you dip it in their house sauce. On top of that, they have some of the best kimchi I've had in a restaurant. Every dish comes with 3 different kinds of kimchi (napa cabbage, turnip, sweet mustard) - my personal favorite was the napa cabbage. Parking: plenty of spots in their free parking lot.
